Introduction

On the occasion of the 150th year of the establishment of the University of Calcutta, Govt. of India allocated a special grant of Rs.100 crore in 2006-07 for the purpose of research in Nanoscience/ Nanotechnology/Biomedical Nanotechnology. This has led to the creation of a National Centre in the University of Calcutta with the name ‘Centre for Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology’ (CRNN). The CRNN houses state-of-the-art equipment facilities in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, covering multidisciplinary areas of Physical, Chemical, and Biological Sciences, and has been continuously serving the researchers both from within and outside the University.

Vision

Creation of a Center of Excellence for interdisciplinary research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, including Physical, Chemical and Biological Sciences. The major thrust will be in the area of nanofabrication guided by requirements of high degree of control at the nanometer scale.
